Organic foods are grown with the minimum use of artificial fertilisers, pesticides, herbicides and fungicides. Animals reared Organically are not injected with or fed antibiotics or GMOs and are assumed to enjoy a higher standard of care and welfare during their lives.

Why eat organic food?


Organic food is better for you

- higher vitamin and mineral content than equivalent ‘conventional foods’ – so better for you (need a bit on physiology, how diet affects mental and physical health (include links to NS articles) - and doesn't contain pesticide residues


Organic food is better for the environment


Affect on climate change

- lower CO2 emissions –because producing fertilisers and pesticides is very energy intensive – need maths


Affect on poverty/social change

Compared to agribusiness is very labour intensive. This is a good thing as it keeps farmers employed and discourages large agribusiness firms from purchasing farmers' land.


Affect on agriculture

Organic farming encourages a mixed cropping approach.


Affect on local ecosystems

No run off from artifical fertilisers and peseticides.
