WikiGoodGlobe:goals and non-goals
From EcoWiki
The mission of WikiGoodGlobe is this:
Mission statement
WikiGoodGlobe articles should be useful for at least the following purposes:
- To help visitors understand an issue, the Internet is the often first port of call for students, teachers and consumers who are looking to understand an environmental, welfare or social issue they've heard about or seen on TV;
- To provide and share practical solutions to issues that threaten human or animal welfare and the environment. The solutions need to explain, in what way(s) they are effective and to provide practical tips so users can integrate the solutions into their life as easily as possible.
- Provide a one-stop, credible source of up-to-date information on all environmental, welfare and social issues, solutions, organisations and iniatives.
- To share information and educate each other on the science, politics and economics that underlie the issues, their solutions and highlight the interconnections between them.
- To be independent and finanically self-sufficient this will hopefully be achieved via the Google Ads that are on the left hands side of the page.
- To raise money for research into the real impact of contentious issues on our health and environment.
- To raise money for reseach and development into practical solutions.

Non-Goals
These are some specific non-goals; things people might think we want to do with WikiGoodGlobe, but we don't:
- Create a personal rant. WikiGoodGlobe is not a forum to sound off against corporations, governments, organisations or individuals.
- Free company advertising. Where appropriate contributors may recommend certain products that support the values WikiGoodGlobe upholds. We would be thrilled to have representatives of these businesses keep those records up-to-date. However, blatant advertising is not welcome, and overcompetitive acts (like deleting information about rival businesses) is gravely deprecated.
- Build a Web directory. WikiGoodGlobe articles can and should have links to external resources, articles in scientific journals, newspapers, orangisations and companies that deal with a particular issue but the goal is not to collect all links about any subject. External links should support and complement the content of articles; they're not a goal in and of themselves.
There are probably lots of other near-miss goals that people might think we have; if needed, we'll list those here, too.
